Lovely shot! I remember seeing these birds completely unexpectedly up the slopes of Mt. Rainier in Washington state. My parents described them to me as I had lagged behind on the trail, looking for something along the lines of a skulking Nuthatch or Chickadee (was hopeful for White-breasted and Mountain, respectively...did get the latter that trip)- I was completely bewildered by what on earth they were describing, my best guess was that they had gotten a weird look at a yellow-shafted Flicker...was extremely surprised to see these guys in summertime US!
